About Us

Insurance 101 specializes in assisting people that have Medicare or a combination of Medicare and Medi-Cal choose the right Medicare Advantage plan, Medicare Supplement or Prescription drug plan that best fits their needs. Every person is different and there are a ton of options. We take the maze of Medicare and make it simple to understand. We find out what our clients already have in place, then explain their plan options. We assist with education, plan selection and enrollment. We also provide year-long customer services and if it is best for a client to keep their current plan, we will let them know. We explain all benefits and assist in accessing services.

Medicare only covers 80% of healthcare cost, leaving Medicare beneficiaries responsible for the remaining 20% along with high out-of-pocket deductibles. Also, Medicare does not cover most prescription costs (Medicare Part B covers a limited number of outpatient prescription drugs under limited conditions). Medicare Advantage Plans, sometimes called "Part C" "MAPD" or "MA Plans," are an “all in one” alternative to Original Medicare. They are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. If you join a Medicare Advantage Plan, you still have Medicare. These "bundled" plans include Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance), and usually Medicare prescription drug (Part D). Some plans have little to no premium. The plans can also include added benefits, such as transportation, gym memberships, vision and dental coverage, allowances for over the counter medication and more.

Insurance 101 Sales and Service Inc. represents most major carriers to allow each client to compare plan options. Carriers such as Anthem Blue Cross, Humana, WellCare, Imperial, Blue Shield, Brand New Day, Central Health Plan, Imperial, Alignment and UnitedHealthcare AARP among others.

Open enrollment for Medicare beneficiaries is every year between October 15th and December 7th. At this time clients can choose a plan option with an effective date of January 1st of the following year. However, there are exception. A person with Medicare and Medi-Cal or that receive (LIS) low income subsidy (Extra Help with their medication cost) can enroll in a plan or choose a new plan option every three months. The new plan would have an effective date of the 1st of the following month, depending on what day of the month the application is submitted (worst case, the plan will be effective the 1st of the next following month). Also, people with certain health conditions have open enrollment into a Chronic Special Needs Plan (CSNP) during the year. Conditions such as:

• Diabetes

• Cardiovascular Disorder

• Heart Failure (of any kind)

• Hypertensive Heart with Chronic Kidney Disease

• Hypertensive Heart (of any kind)

• History of Stroke

We want to help as many people as possible find the right plan option for them.

Medicare can be very confusing; it helps to have someone on your side.

Our mission is to Educate and Advocate.
